Hundreds of Rescue Animals need Somebody Special like YOU!

Join ROLDA Global Parents network!
#ROLDAFriend

For just 3$ you can give a vulnerable animal the happy life they deserve and become the guardian angel of the next one we save from the street or one of our senior furry friends (dogs and cats) already in our care.

ROLDA never gives up on a rescued animal. We never euthanise, unless expertly advised by our highly experienced vet that it would be cruel to force an animal to live on in unbearable pain or disability. We pride ourselves on this philosophy. However, many animals we rescue are already in advanced years, abandoned by reluctant owners who can no longer afford to keep them. Unfortunately, many of the animals in our care will stay with us until the end of their natural lives. Many of our dogs simply aren’t psychologically or physically capable of travel.

The health and wellbeing of our dogs and cats will always remain our number one priority. However, those who stay with us will grow old with us and live in safetycomfort and with the affection and company of the ROLDA family; furry and human alike.

As a result, elderly dogs now comprise 50% of the total population in our care. Elderly dogs present us with additional challenges and special requirements to ensure their good health.

We recently open a sanctuary for disabled and senior cats and these adorable additions to our family came with more special requirements for our small team.

Many senior animals have dietary requirements or require soft food as they are missing teeth. Furthermore, many need a special fortified diet to help manage chronic and painful illnesses, such as joint problems or arthritis. It’s not cheap to give to an old furry buddy the happy and healthy life he deserves!

With an increasing number of senior dogs growing old with our team (as adopters tend to favor younger dogs with less complex needs), ROLDA sanctuaries are in dire need of Global Parents.

Most ROLDA adoptions happen in Europe. We rarely rehome in the US and never in Australia due to ecological quarantine laws and complicated procedures which will unsettle and scare a dog after an already mammoth journey. But even if you live outside Europe or you can’t adopt into your home, you still can help make a difference.

Before
After

Piciu

Piciu is a wonderful puppy with a tragic destiny. He was the pet of an irresponsible owner and almost lost his life when he got his front paws stuck in a fence. Piciu hung on that metal fence for a whole night, terrified and injured, until finally his master noticed his absence and released him. Even though Piciu’s owner was not the most caring and attentive, we will always be grateful to him for taking him to the vet that day, as he was more dead than alive, and saving his life. Piciu had lost a lot of blood from the deep wounds dug by the metal fence into his pads.

Unfortunately, the little dog would lose two other important things in less than 24 hours: one of his paws and his owner who no longer wanted to take care of him. That’s how Piciu ended up in our shelter and, fortunately, his destiny took an unexpected turn. In a short time, he was adopted by Michele, our sponsor from Switzerland who also takes care of Arno and Ruby, other former members of the ROLDA family! Piciu is now living a dream life with his new family and we are very happy that he has the chance to feel true love.

Rambo

Rambo is another puppy with an unfortunate destiny. Born on the streets or perhaps abandoned at an early age, he grew up fearing humans and seeing them as fearsome aggressors. He was so scared of people that when our vet tried to get close to him to see why he was limping, Rambo dove into a nearby fishing pond to keep his distance. I found out later what had happened to him. He had tried to take shelter in someone’s farm and was attacked and chased away by the owner’s dogs who were doing their duty as guard animals. That’s how Rambo ended up with an injured paw and a nasty infection that put his mobility and life at risk.

Lucky for him, our vet doesn’t give up on one-two punch. He alerted us and, armed with tranquilizers, we set off in search of him. We were able to find him and get him medical attention. But Rambo’s destiny worked on the “one hot, one cold” system. The wounds and infection were severe enough to leave him without that paw. Moreover, having a weakened body, he reacted to the vaccine and fell ill with parvo, a relentless disease with a high mortality rate. For 3 days Rambo didn’t touch anything, but then he slowly recovered. The convalescence spent with the ROLDA volunteers made Rambo understand that people can bring something other than pain and fear. This is how the wild Rambo came to be tamed and now we are happy to announce that he is going to become a loving and loyal pet for a big-hearted person in Sweden!

FAQ

What is a ROLDA Global Parent?

Like most charities, ROLDA is lucky to have monthly donors – amazing people who’ve decided to donate every month. This type of gift is extremely gratefully received by ROLDA as it enables us to calculate next month’s budget more accurately and anticipate the funds we can rely on. This provides us with the security of the knowledge that our animals will not go hungry and we have money available for emergency expenses, such as a complex surgical procedure or specialized medicine.

How does a ROLDA Global Parent directly help our animals?

The majority of ROLDA expenditure is on the daily upkeep of our three sanctuaries between which house hundreds of dogs and some cats. Our sanctuaries were built and are maintained to internationally recognized and EU standards, based on pioneering British shelter design. Our shelters are clean, safe and comfortable. Furthermore, they are operated by our wonderful staff and volunteers who work far beyond their pay and hours. ROLDA needs all the help it can possibly get to rescue more injured, neglected and abused animals that desperately need us and have no other hope of safety and love. Regular gifts, no matter how small, provide us with a reliable stream of income to allow us to stockpile funds for urgent rescue, veterinary bills and other unforeseeable emergency costs.

I am a Global Parent. Is my gift helping the animal I choose?

Absolutely. We fully respect each donor’s wishes regarding the purpose of informing their donation. However, should you choose to ‘Sponsor Them All’, your donation will go directly into the upkeep costs of all the dogs in our care, both present, and future.

How I can help a particular dog?

In order to help one of our dogs:
⇨ Visit our sponsor and adoption page
⇨ Click on a dog’s profile
⇨ Select your gift
⇨ That’s all.

I want to help all the #ROLDdogs, can I sponsor them all?

Of course. For 25 EUR (or its equivalent in your currency) a person can choose to Sponsor Them All which means that all the animals in our care will benefit from your recurrent gift. These vital funds will go towards our general upkeep with every penny spent on direct animal care costs. This money will provide food, heating, security, medicine, clean drinking water, and a place to safely exercise, socialize and play. This is an extremely precious gift and everyone at ROLDA (human and canine!) is eternally grateful for this special act of generosity and compassion.

Do I get updates regarding the dog(s) I choose to sponsor?

ROLDA cannot afford many paid staff members and those in our employment are engaged in active work both in the field – rescuing injured dogs and providing food and medicine for homeless animals – and directly caring for the dogs in our shelters. We know as an animal lover, you wouldn’t want this any other way. However, we try to keep you updated as often as we can and it is our pleasure to show our gratitude in a modest, symbolic way to thank the unique people who become Global Parents to our cherished canine companions.

What happens when my sponsored dog is adopted?

If during the sponsorship, "your" #roldadog is adopted or if, unfortunately, he/she passes away, you can choose another dog to benefit from your generous support. Please click here to find another dog to sponsor.

We help senior dogs with little chance of being adopted

Our entire activity is fully supported by donations. Every working day, every cold night during which our animals have shelter, every rescue intervention and every difficult operation, all depend on donations. The whole process, from rescuing the dog on the street to adoption is different for each of them, and in some cases, the challenge is greater. This is also the case for senior dogs.

Tulum, for example, was a dog with little chance of being adopted, but who now lives in the UK with his owners, in his own house. Tulum was rescued from the streets of Smârdan village, Galați county, where he wandered limping, and sick. It was one of the few times we used the tranquilizer because the dog was reluctant, he didn’t let us come close but he urgently needed our help. After a visit to the vet, we discovered that Tulum was an old dog and that he had a very old and very severe fracture in one leg, which had welded so badly and caused him so much pain that amputating a part of his leg was, unfortunately, the only solution. Now, thanks to the efforts of the ROLDA rescue team and the donations of the ROLDA Global Parents network members, Tulum enjoys his new life.

We are building a new shelter for the dogs from the paddocks that Galati authorities have decided to demolish

And as for other animals like cats, horses, and donkeys, many of them endure terrible abuse and suffering. However, there is hope for a brighter future for these animals if ROLDA succeeds in bringing the PawzUp sanctuary to life. This sanctuary is our cherished dream, aiming to benefit not only the current generation of animals but also the ones to come, as well as the compassionate people who care for them, all within Romania.

PawzUp’s vision is to put Romania on the map as a place that values intelligence and compassion towards animals and people alike, providing a safe and modern haven for all. Though an ambitious and costly endeavor, by joining forces and starting from the ground up, we can achieve the creation of a secure, state-of-the-art animal sanctuary. This sanctuary will be a testament to the unity and dedication of like-minded individuals – visitors, volunteers, and supporters, all working together for the betterment of animal welfare in Romania and beyond.

Why do we desperately need something stable and visible? Because that’s how we could be sure that we won’t suffer again like we are suffering now. Namely, we no longer risk the authorities tearing down the shelter built legally by us, with our own funds and also funds coming from donations, on land we own. When the plans of CNAIR were made to build a public road, none of the local authorities in Galați acknowledged that there was already a legal construction on that plot. We need a bigger presence so we aren’t overlooked anymore. We need all ROLDA Global Parents network members by our side!

We help cats like Arya

One thing we are proud of at ROLDA is that we help both dogs and cats. Just like Arya. We rescued this poor creature with her eyes coming out of their sockets due to severe infection (and no, it’s not a figure of speech). Unfortunately, despite costly interventions and top medical attention received, Arya lost her eyes. But the medical staff, in whose care she remains, are pampering her every day and the cat’s life is no longer threatened. The medical interventions and treatment were covered by ROLDA from funds raised with the help of the ROLDA Global Parents network members. And the efforts for Arya continue. We will look for a family willing to receive her with open arms. Or we’ll take care of her for the rest of her life.
